Hand Therapy
Fremont Therapy Group’s specialized staff includes two Certified Hand Therapists (CHT), a nationally recognized designation which means the therapist has at least five years and 4,000 hours of clinical practice in this specialty.
We provide individualized upper extremity treatments related to injury, surgery, disability, and disease. Our CHTs are specifically trained to evaluate and provide the most up-to-date treatments for the finger, hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, and shoulder. These customized treatment plans are based on proven scientific research. By initiating therapy sessions promptly after an injury or surgery, patients can significantly reduce complications related to scar tissue, joint stiffness, and nerve irritation.
Following a thorough evaluation, our Certified Hand Therapist will develop an individualized treatment plan for each client including:
- preventative, non-operative or conservative treatment
- management of acute or chronic pain
- desensitization following nerve injury or trauma
- sensory re-education after nerve injury
- design and implementation of home exercise program to increase motion
- dexterity and/or strength
- custom splint fabrication for prevention or correction of injury
- training in the performance of daily life skills through adapted methods and equipment
- conditioning prior to returning to work.
We depend on our hands and upper extremities (wrist, forearm, elbow, and shoulder) for everyday function. Loss of function from an orthopedic injury, accident, or cumulative trauma can be devastating. Delicate orthopedic surgery with microscopic techniques can often be required to restore maximum function. Certified Hand Therapists have advanced knowledge and skills in the orthopedic rehabilitation process. Certified Hand Therapists are also trained to address the social, emotional, and physiological effects of these injuries/conditions.
Custom Fabricated Splints
We fabricate custom splints in the clinic to meet the unique needs of each client in terms of both purpose and fit. These splints accommodate variations in anatomy and joint alignment and the thermoplastic material used is easier to keep clean than off-the-shelf alternatives. As treatments progress, the splints can continue to be adjusted and modified for proper fit and function.
